Is Toss the Boss?

Now that’s something that has polarized the cricketing world into two poles i.e., ones who support the idea that toss is important for victory and ones who are leaned towards that your skills and mindset can help you win any situation.

Well, I support the latter idea as I think something which is not in your hands should not be of such importance as opposed to something that you can completely control. Well everybody has taken that many Probability lectures to know that you are the winner only on half chances. As long as the groundsmen have done a good job, tosses don’t help any team that much and give a just little head start to the toss-winning team.

Now if we are talking worst-case scenarios like a heavy dew from ball one in the second innings of a T20 or ODI match then winning the toss is something that can help you immensely although these situations are as small as an electron in number.

Taking it a step further some competitions have scrapped the toss and have used some new methods albeit they don’t have any advantages, it’s good to have something new just for a change. For example, Big Bash had introduced flipping of bat in 2018 to decide who will bat or field first. Although it doesn’t change the chances it is like something new so it might excite some souls.

So the bottom line is that Toss should not be scrapped as it is the ability of the winning XI that decides the fate of the Match, not the toss. This is me signing off and I’ll meet you in the next one…..
