Is Toss the Boss?

Now that’s something that has polarized the cricketing world into two poles i.e., ones who support the idea that toss is important for victory and ones who are leaned towards that your skills and mindset can help you win any situation.

Well, I support the latter idea as I think something which is not in your hands should not be of such importance as opposed to something that you can completely control. Well everybody has taken that many Probability lectures to know that you are the winner only on half chances. As long as the groundsmen have done a good job, tosses don’t help any team that much and give a just little head start to the toss-winning team.

Now if we are talking worst-case scenarios like a heavy dew from ball one in the second innings of a T20 or ODI match then winning the toss is something that can help you immensely although these situations are as small as an electron in number.

Taking it a step further some competitions have scrapped the toss and have used some new methods albeit they don’t have any advantages, it’s good to have something new just for a change. For example, Big Bash had introduced flipping of bat in 2018 to decide who will bat or field first. Although it doesn’t change the chances it is like something new so it might excite some souls.

So the bottom line is that Toss should not be scrapped as it is the ability of the winning XI that decides the fate of the Match, not the toss. This is me signing off and I’ll meet you in the next one…..

The Kohli & Kumar Show!

Man, that was a good match to end the series with. England was in the game up until Butler got out to Kumar caught by Pandya at long-off on the last ball of the 13th over. The pressure created by the last two overs followed by good 5 deliveries by Kumar showing his experience was the result of Butler just trying to smoke it over long-off.

To begin the proceedings India had a great start with Rohit and Virat opening together for the first time and getting 94 at a brisk rate after KL was replaced by Natarajan. England played the same XI. Rohit was looking in complete HITMAN mode but an inside edge on 64 produced by Stokes stopped him trying to pull that stayed low. Then came SKY and boy did he not become ABD today. He played shots all around the world(stadium). He was looking good too but an excellent catch from Jordan gave a halt to his innings of 32. After SKY went dark, there came Pandya light. An unbeaten partnership of 81 with Virat is all that India and its fans needed to have a great finish to the innings. He was pulling, hooking, ramping and everything Kung-fu Pandya does.

Talking aside about Virat, people can be reassured that he is back in form. All those who were worried about his form have to find another job until another lean patch comes in. He is the highest run-scorer of the series and the Player of the Series so that already states the fact that he has played great knocks in this series. I mean he is a great player but after an array of low scores, he has come back heads high. Tonight he also became the highest runs getter against England in T20Is surpassing Aaron Finch.

The second innings’ start wasn’t good either good for England as they lost Roy on the second ball of the Innings but for India Kumar’s swing is still getting him huge wickets. Then there was a phase where England was looking in command with Butler and Malan playing good shots and hitting boundaries at will. Their shots were gorgeous. Then there was a wicket that completely changed the fortunes for England which was complements the pressure created by Chahar’s 7 run 12th over.

After that came Pandya in his second spell and bowled beautifully. Shardul Thakur was also among the wicket charts during the death overs.

It was a good performance from the top two teams in the world and that was expected from them. The last two games particularly showed how much was the distance between the two teams although this game’s scorecard begs to differ from this fact.

So this is me signing off. Thanks for reading this blog of mine and I’ll see you in the ODI series…….
